Heading to the races for only the second time, two-year-old Any Given Saturday gelding Saturday Skies became the first southern hemisphere winner for his G1-winning sire with a bold front-running display over 1000m at Ascot on January 18.
Jumping from the outside barrier, jockey Peter Knuckey produced a masterful ride, managing to get the gelding across to the rails within the space of 200m. Never ever shirking his task in the lead, Saturday Skies battled down the length of the straight for a memorable victory.
Bred by Mrs K A Butler of Victoria, Saturday Skies is out of the Perugino mare Panaromic Skies and comes from the family Stakes winners Razor Blade, Sunburnt Land, Doubtful Jack and Exceed And Excels G1 performed daughter Curtana. Panaromic Skies has a yearling filly by Strategic and recently foaled a Domesday colt.
Perhaps the most gifted of a remarkable crop of American colts, Any Given Saturday’s resume includes triumphs over Horse of the Year Curlin and fellow Darley stallions Hard Spun and running Street Sense to a nose - in record time.
The sire of ten first-crop winners in the northern hemisphere including Stakes performer Sunday’s Child, Any Given Saturday will be represented by three yearlings at the upcoming Inglis Premier Yearling Sale in late February.
