With only one yearling selling on day one of the 2012 Magic Millions yearling sale, it was the Exceed And Excel colt out of the Dehere mare Mirror Mirror (lot 132) to take the leading honour.
Out of a Magic Millions 2YO Classic winner and a three-quarter-brother this year’s Magic Millions 2YO Classic leading contender No Looking Back, this colt ticked all the boxes. Knocked down to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $350,000, the colt was the second highest-priced seller on day one.
Offered for sale by John Singleton’s Strawberry Hills Stud, the colt comes from the famed “Tennessee” family, which counts G1 performers Aloha, Misty Vain, Extension Of Time and Nina Haraka among its myriad of Stakes winners.
Another impressive individual to sell on day one was the Glastonbury Farm-consigned lot 113 - the first lot through the ring by the Champion two and three-year-old colt New Approach. Out of the unraced Rory’s Jester mare Marokish, herself a half-sister to G1 winners Universal Prince and Universal Queen, and from the family of G1 VRC Derby winner Blevic, the colt was purchased by Magic Millions as agent for $165,000.
Street Sense continued on from his excellent sale last year at the same venue, recording a top-priced lot of $190,000 for lot 131, a filly out of the top city mare Mimzical, which was knocked down to Queensland-based Magic Bloodstock Racing syndicate.
The sale continues on Thursday.
