Reset was represented by a new Stakes winner in New Zealand on Saturday when six-year-old mare Cassini swooped late to take the Listed Wanganui Cup over 2040m at Wanganui in New Zealand.
Given a lovely ride by Lisa Allpress, Cassini was covered up midfield behind the leaders until deep into the straight, peeling off heels and coming with a strong run to reach the lead inside the final 100m. Fitter for two runs this time in, Cassini defeated Spiro and Manonamission and now looks well placed for a Summer campaign.
This is the fourth win for Cassini, who is headed towards the G2 City Of Auckland Cup over 2400m at Ellerslie on January 1, a race she finished second in last season, and her first win at Stakes level having been previously placed four times at Stakes level.
In winning she becomes the 15th Stakes winner for her unbeaten G1 winning sire Reset, also the sire this season of the G1 W S Cox Plate winner Pinker Pinker.
Bred by D Dean, Cassini is out of Mathematical, a granddaughter of Danzig, and a half-sister to G2 Sir Tristram Fillies Classic winner Centrofold and her granddam True Devotion, the winner of the G1 West Australia Oaks in 1984. Mathematical has a 2011 colt by Darley's G1-winning son of Distorted Humor in Any Given Saturday (USA).
Reset stands at Darley Northwood Park where his fee in 2011 is set at $16,500 (inc GST).
