The Hard Spun colt Hierro lived up to his favoritism on November 11 at Churchill Downs in impressive fashion as he drew off in the stretch to win a Maiden Special Weight event by five and one-quarter lengths. He was registering his first career victory to become his sire’s 22nd career winner from his first crop of two-year-olds. Street Sense's Sir Bond closed well to finish second.
Bred by Sally Andersen in Kentucky, Hierro was purchased by her owner Stonestreet Stable at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company 2011 March Sale of Selected Two-Year-Olds in Training for US$350,000. His dam, the G3-placed mare Brief Bliss, is also dam of the multiple Stakes winner and G3-placed Cherokee Triangle as well as the Stakes-placed filly Sam’s Bliss. Brief Bliss also has a 2011 yearling by Street Sense.
Hard Spun’s 21 other winners include the G2 winner Red Duke, Stakes winners Hard Not To Like and Yvete Sangalo as well as the Group-placed Glinda The Good and Questing.
Hard Spun is currently standing at Northwood Park at a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
