Darley stallion Street Cry sired his ninth Group One winner of his career on Saturday when Seventh Street ran away with the Apple Blossom Handicap at Oaklawn Park. This is the second year running that the race has been won by a daughter of Street Cry after the mighty Zenyatta took out last year's renewal en route to Breeders' Cup success.
Unlike her previous start when she was restless in the gate and lost all chance, this time she broke with the field and was soon at the head of affairs. Setting consistent fractions, she was never headed under her rider Rajiv Maragh and powered away in the stretch to win by five-and-three-quarter-lengths, to record her first victory at the highest level.
Bred by Steve Barberino, she was bought by Darley as a two-year-old at Fasig Tipton for $1,000,000 and is out of the Stakes-winning mare Holiday Runner. Her year younger half-brother Reynaldothewizard was a winning juvenile last season, and finished third in the G2 Saratoga Special Stakes.
