Just a day after Rachel Alexandra made history when winning the G1 Woodford Stakes, another of Medaglia d'Oro’s talented offspring took a Graded Stakes at the Spa when Al Khali took the G3 Saranac in convincing fashion.
Settled in mid division under Kent Desormeaux, the three-year-old ridgling travelled beautifully throughout the one-and-three-sixteenth-mile contest. Switched to the outside approaching the turn, Al Khali accelerated impressively down the stretch and once in front, drew clear of his rivals with ease to win by a length and a quarter.
Bred by Emory A Hamilton, Al Khali is out of the winning Capote mare Maya and is from the family G1 winner and outstanding producer Chic Shrine.
Also on Sunday, freshman sire Consolidator (pictured) notched his tenth individual winner when Missaintbehavin led all the way to win by six-and-a-half lengths over five furlongs at Ellis Park.
Bred by DJR Thoroughbreds, she is out of the Marquetry mare Color My Heart who is also dam of the Stakes-placed filly Oh Deanne O.
