Quays for Street Cry

Following a successful opening day's trading at the Inglis Australian Easter Broodmare Sale, the Darley stallions were once again in demand at Newmarket on Wednesday.

Consigned by Dean Fleming's Tyreel Thoroughbred Stud, Royal Academy mare Quays was offered as lot 305. The winner of the G2 Wakeful Stakes and G1 placed on three occasions, the mare was sold with a positive test to Australia's leading sire Street Cry. Knocked down to Newgate Bloodstock for $490,000 during the second day of selling, Quays is out of the G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Pontal Lass.

Leading third-season sire Lonhro built on his positive results from day one when lot 272, a grand-daughter of Champion racemare Let's Elope carrying a positive October cover was sold. Also offered with a filly foal at foot by 2006 World Champion Bernardini, a final bid of $270,000 secured the extremely enticing package. Purchased by leading bloodstock agent Vin Cox, the mare is a half-sister to successful sire Ustinov and the Stakes-performed Caught Courting and Yes I Will.

Patinack Farm were once again acting as buyers during the second day, signing for lot 298, the Wimmera Park Stud-offered four-time winner Pride'n'prejudice for $215,000. Consigned in foal to Lonhro, the mare is a half-sister to this season's G1 WS Cox Plate winner So You Think.

Undefeated European Champion two-year-old New Approach made a very pleasing start to his sales career with his very first lot through the ring knocked down to Bruce Perry Bloodstock for $240,000. Consigned by Glastonbury Farms, Quatro is a winning half-sister to G1 winner Shot Of Thunder. Out of the G1 AJC Oaks winner My Brilliant Star, who incidentally visited G1 Epsom Derby winner Authorized last season, Quatro is from the family of G1 winners Lachlan River and Sudurka.

Edinglassie Stud presented lot 424, the Stakes-performed Choisir mare Silent But Deadly which carried a positive test to history-maker Street Sense. The only winner of both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby, Street Sense covered his second book of mares last season at Darley's Kelvinside property. Knocked down to Gerry Harvey's Baramul Stud for $160,000, the mare is bred on the very successful Danehill-Rory's Jester cross.
