The first weanlings by Street Sense (pictured) – the first horse ever to win both the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the Kentucky Derby – are currently selling and proved a popular choice on the opening day of the Magic Millions National Sale on 25 May.
Three of his offspring went through the ring and averaged a very respectable $75,000. His highest price of the session was $100,000, given by J & I Bloodstock Limited for a brown colt out of the unraced Danzero mare Romancing. The dam is a half-sister to multiple Stakes winner and proven producer Calming, plus Royal Solitaire – herself dam of G1 winner War Artist.
Later in the session, Steve Brem went to $90,000 to secure Street Sense’s bay filly out of Assertiveness (Danehill). This filly boasts an outstanding pedigree, with her dam being half-sister to multiple G1-winning duo Assertive Lad and Assertive Lass – the latter being dam of fellow Darley stallion and proven G1 sire Reset.
Also on Wednesday, a colt by fellow first-season sire Bernardini was bought by Edward O’Dwyer for $80,000. He is from the G3-winning G2-placed Sir Tristram mare Queen Isolt and is from the family of multiple G1 winner Theseo.
Henny Hughes' only weanling to be offered during the opening session also provided his breeders with a decent return, selling to Singapore’s Tiong Seng Ong for $65,000. The bay colt is out of the Danzero mare Sapphire Girl and is from the family of Darley Japan stallion and multiple G1-winning World Champion Fantastic Light.
The sale continues today.
