Multiple G1 winner Henny Hughes recorded his first winner on 21 July when his two-year-old son Dalamar broke his maiden in style, winning over five furlongs at Delaware Park.
Breaking smartly from the gate, the Bret Calhoun-trained colt took the early lead and eased clear of his rivals close to home to win by two lengths on just his second start.
Owned and bred by Gulf Coast Farms, Dalamar is the first foal to race out of the Deputy Minister mare Dutchess Mojo, herself a daughter of Blissful – a full sister to Fusaichi Pegasus.
Henny Hughes was a G2-winning juvenile who was also placed in the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, G1 Hopeful Stakes and G1 Champagne Stakes. The following year, he went on to become the only three-year-old ever to win the G1 Vosburgh and G1 King’s Bishop Stakes, and also set a new Stakes record when landing the G3 Jersey Shore at Monmouth Park.
Rewarded with an exceptional line up of mares in his first two seasons in the southern hemisphere, Henny Hughes covered sisters to G1 winners Tie The Knot, Gilded Time, Mr Innocent, Point Ashley, Crawl, Burst, Testafiable, Quick Flick and Rinky Dink.
Henny Hughes will stand the upcoming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $19,250 including GST.
