More than 200 breeders, trainers and owners from across Victoria attended the North East Thoroughbred Breeders' (NETB) Annual Awards Night on Saturday July 31, with the aim of the evening to highlight the achievements of the Victorian Thoroughbred Breeding Industry.
The pinnacle of the night was the auction of a nomination to Darley Victoria's G2-winning sire Domesday. After an extremely spirited bidding dual between NETB president Bob Scarborough and successful Western Australian breeder Bob Peters, a final bid of $41,000 was taken and the nomination was secured by the latter.
In his first season at stud, Red Ransom stallion Domesday (pictured) was represented by the impressive G1 TJ Smith winner Pressday, the G1-perfomed Divorces and further Stakes horses Domesky and Exchanges. With four Stakes horses from just 20 first-crop runners, his Stakes performers to runners achievement is extremely impressive, bettered by no other Australian-based first-season sire of his year.
In a week where Darley's Victorian based stallions provided some outstanding results, it was great to note that Zabeel's unbeaten G1-winning son Reset supplied six winners over the past seven days.
Recording a treble on the final day of the 09/10 racing season, Reset’s success was highlighted by a “city double” with the brilliant first-up performance of the Danny O’Brien galloper Eraset at Caulfield and victory to the Peter Snowden-trained Reprobate, in the final race on the Rosehill.
The victory of Reprobate not only highlighted his consistency, having recorded five wins and four places from 10 starts, but awarded Peter Snowden the NSW Trainers' Premiership with 98 wins, four wins clear of his nearest rival. Snowden also claimed the Australian trainers title with the stable producing a total of 228.5 winners, as well as the Australian metropolitan trainers premiership on 132 winners.
