A historical winner of the G1 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and the G1 Kentucky Derby during his glittering race track career, a colt from the first-crop of Street Sense achieved a record price for his sire when he went through the ring as one of the last hips of the day.
Consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, the colt is out of the winning Storm Cat mare Princess Storm, from the family of Stakes winners Master Command, Aurora Lights, Born Wild, Lost Soldier and Icon Project. Purchased by Demi O’Byrne for $435,000, the colt was one of five to sell on the fifth day of the sale.
Danzig’s G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner Hard Spun had a colt, hip 1015, make $300,000 to the final bid of Shadwell Estate Company. Having already purchased three of the top four yearlings sold by Hard Spun (pictured), the Shadwell-owned colt is out of the winning Exploit mare Mayfield.
Fellow first-crop sire Any Given Saturday also had an impressive seller during the fifth session. A winner of the G1 Haskell Invitational Stakes over Hard Spun and Curlin, Any Given Saturday’s top seller of the sale achieved $225,000. Purchased by Repole Stable, the bay colt is out of a half-sister to the G2-winning, G1-placed Distorted Humor colt Sharp Humor.
Earlier in the day Sheikh Hamdan’s Shadwell Estate went to $240,000 to secure a colt from the second crop of the World Champion Sprinter Henny Hughes. Out of the Capote mare Lady Cruella, the Eaton Sales as Agent consigned colt is a half-sister to the dual G2 winner Leah’s Secret.
Two hips prior saw Lothenback Stables part with $150,000 for a chestnut colt from the first-crop of G1 Cigar Mile winner Discreet Cat. Out of the Meadowlake mare Lady Auchamore, the colt is a half-brother to the Stakes performed Stormy Lad.
The sale continues on Friday with the final portion of Book Two.
