Leading young sire Lonhro has made an impressive start to the new racing season and on 3 October he recorded his third Stakes winner this term and 18th overall when three-year-old colt Territory landed the 1400m Doncaster Stakes at Flemington.
Sent off as favourite to take the Listed contest, Territory put up a brave performance, dictating the pace from the outset and running on superbly to win by a head from Mr Chard with Multahem a further two lengths away in third.
Territory has now won twice and placed three times from five starts, and is likely to step up to Group class for his next start with the Carbine Club Stakes cited as a possible target.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, he is out of the winning Canny Lad mare Dominions, a half-sister to multiple G1 winner Sports.
Also at Flemington on Sunday, Street Cry's Melbourne Cup winner Shocking was narrowly denied in the G1 Turnbull Stakes, while No Evidence Needed (Shamardal) added further Black type to her record when second in the G2 Blazer Stakes.
