Champion first and second season sire Exceed And Excel recorded his seventh individual southern hemisphere performer of the season on Sunday, when his two-year-old daughter Chinchilla took the Listed Elwick Stakes, run over 1100m at Hobart.
In an impressive front-running display, the Lee Freedman-trained filly held all challengers at bay from the start, showing tremendous gate speed reminiscent of her dual G1-winning sire, Jockey Craig Newitt rated the filly superbly to cross the line in a time of 1:06.03 on a track that was rated a Dead 4.
The only horse to challenge Chinchilla was the Nadeem filly Triple Asset, who becomes the second Black type performer for her sire - himself a champion two-year-old - and looks to have a very bright future ahead of her.
Exceed And Excel is also sire of G1 winner Reward For Effort; plus this season's G1 performer Curtana and Stakes performers Valoura, Internal Revenue and Exceedingly Regal. He recently had yearlings sell up to $460,000 at the Magic Millions yearling sale and has two colts cataloged in the Inglis Classic Sale at Newmarket.
Exceed And Excel and Nadeem both stand at Darley’s Kelvinside Stud in the Hunter Valley.
