It took only four lots into the sale, but once the Distinct Racing and Breeding–consigned Street Sense filly entered the ring, it was all over.
Out of the seven-time winning Zabeel mare Jezabeel, the winner of not only the G1 Melbourne Cup, but the G1 Auckland Cup as well, the filly was knocked down to Bahen Bloodstock for $200,000. With that price not bettered throughout the remainder of the session, the filly held the honour of the top-priced lot of the session.
Set to go to the Melbourne stable of leading trainer Mark Kavanagh, the filly is sure to be given every chance given that the trainer knows all too well about the progeny of Street Sense’s sire Street Cry through the deeds of G1 winners Whobegotyou and Melbourne Cup hero Shocking.
Distinct Racing and Breeding also supplied the second highest priced lot of the day. Entering the ring towards the end of the session, Lot 91 was a strong bay colt by Exceed And Excel out of the G2 Karrakatta Plate-winning Xaar mare No Questions.
Knocked down to Donna Riordan for $150,000, the colt carried on the positive start to the sales season for the Champion first and second-season sire, who has achieved prices of up to $460,000 so far.
Not to be outdone by his fellow Darley stallions, current-top five stallion Lonhro had the next highest price of the session, a filly out of the Royal Academy mare Misguiding. Offered by Korilya Stud, the bay filly was purchased by leading Western Australian trainer Neville Parnham for $120,000.
The sale continues on Thursday.
