Lonhro's stellar season continued after taking his number of Stakes wins for the season to eight, just one behind leader and fellow Darley stallion Commands who is currently on nine wins. After jumping positively from barrier one, jockey Kerrin McEvoy had the three-year-old Lonhro filly perfectly positioned throughout the 1200m Randwick feature to score by a length in her first run back from a spell.
A Woodlands homebred, Obsequious is the second foal out of Sycophant and managed to out-rate fellow homebred Parables, also by Lonhro, finishing a gallant third in her first run back. "Everything went to plan," trainer Peter Snowden stated post race. "We thought we'd be able to control the race, Kerrin [McEvoy] was positive early, dictated the speed to suit himself and she gave a good kick at the finish."
Obsequious has now won three of her nine starts and added this G3 race to her earlier G3 San Domenico Stakes win at the same track back in August 2010. Lonhro now has 77 winners for the season and shares equal third on the winners' table.
Former Horse of the Year, Lonhro will be strongly represented at the upcoming sales, with 16 yearlings entered at the Inglis Premier Sale and seven lots catalogued for the Inglis Easter sales. He stands at Kelvinside Stud in the Hunter Valley alongside his G1-winning son Denman.
