Plum Pretty was beautiful in the stretch for the $1 million G1 Kentucky Oaks on May 6 to take home the prestigious victory. The three-year-old filly had impressed with a 25-length win last time out in the Sunland Park Oaks, the margin reminscent of another Medaglia d'Oro filly, Rachel Alexandra. This win gave Medaglia d'Oro his second G1 Kentucky Oaks winner in just three years after Rachel Alexandra in 2009.
During the one and one-eighth mile race, Plum Pretty began by pressing the pace early under the irons of Martin Garcia. Racing very comfortably throughout, the filly went for the lead and opened up in the stretch, then held off a late charge to prevail for a final time of 1:49.50.
Ever consistent, the talented Plum Pretty has finished on the board in all five of her career starts for owner Peachtree Stable and trainer Bob Baffert. In addition to her previous Stakes win in which she earned a 99 Beyer figure, the filly placed in both the G1 Las Virgenes and G2 Santa Ynez after having broken her maiden first time out.
The daughter of Medaglia d'Oro was bred in Pennsylvania by Silent Indy Stables LLC and DDS Stables. Plum Pretty is out of the well-bred A. P. Indy mare Liszy, a half-sister to Stakes winner Gold Case. In turn, she is the daughter of multiple Graded Stakes winner and G1-placed Silent Account.
The success of Medaglia d'Oro at stud is surely proven again today, with the sire's second Kentucky Oaks winner and sixth G1 winner in just three crops of runners at the track. In addition to previously mentioned Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra, the stallion's best progeny include G1 winners Champagne d'Oro, Warrior's Reward and Gabby's Golden Gal. Medaglia d'Oro stands for a fee of $100,000 stands and nurses.
