Lonhro's march up the sires table climbed another rung after Beaded saluted in the feature G1 Doomben 10,000 on May 28.
Darley trainer Peter Snowden described the win “as good as it gets, there's nothing of her, she's tiny but she's by Lonhro and that's the big plus”.
Given a perfect run in transit by jockey Corey Brown, the mare fought it out right down to the wire to win by the smallest of margins, the champion hoop describing her as "the toughest horse I've ridden”.
Beaded has now amassed an imposing record having had 20 starts, only missing a place once, when beaten a neck in the 2010 G1 Stradbroke Handicap, the race Beaded will now target.
If Lonhro can rein in High Chaparral before the end of the season on July 31, he will join Vain as the only former Australian Horse of the Year to be crowned the Champion sire of Australia.
Lonhro is the sire of 45 Stakes performers to date including G1 winner Denman, G2 winners Parables, O’Lonhro and Obsequious as well as G3 winners Trim and Demerit. Lonhro also has exciting two-year-old colt Benfica aimed at the G1 TJ Smith Stakes in the upcoming weeks, which should he win, would almost certainly cement his place at the top of the sires table.
Lonhro and Denman are both standing the forthcoming breeding season at Darley Kelvinside for $77,000 (inc GST) and $38,500 (inc GST) respectively.
