Yvete Sangalo, by first-crop sire Hard Spun, became her sire's second winner by impressing in a Lone Star Maiden Special Weight May 27 in the USA. The two-year-old filly won the five furlong race in only her second start.
Bred in Mexico by Rancho Pozo de Luna, Yvete Sangalo is out of the Unbridled mare Ya Tarra. Ya Tarra hails from a deep family of worldly runners, as she is a half-sister to English and French Champion Lamtarra, French Group winner Saytarra, and Dubai Stakes winner Kammtarra.
A son of the immortal Danzig, Hard Spun was one of the best of his generation. A multiple Graded Stakes winner, Hard Spun took Saratoga's G1 King's Bishop Stakes and then stretched out for second in the G1 Kentucky Derby and G1 Breeders' Cup Classic. Hard Spun's first runners are currently hitting the track in the USA this season, while his first-crop of yearlings are currently in the sales ring in the southern hemisphere.
Covering an outstanding first book of mares which included G1 winners In Joyment, Reganza and She's Archie, plus the dams, siblings and daughters of a further 18 G1 winners, Hard Spun will stand the forthcoming season at Northwood Park for a fee of $16,500 (inc GST).
