Two-year-old Hard Spun colt Red Duke justified his position at the head of the market for the 1400m maiden at Redcar on Saturday when running home the ready winner to score by a length on his second start.
Bred in the US by B P Walden Jr and H Sexton, Red Duke is out of Saudia, by Gone West, a two-year-old winner herself and a daughter of the G1 Yorkshire Oaks and G1 Prix Vermeille winner Bint Pasha.
Red Duke is the fourth winner for his freshman sire, whose other scorers are Belmont Park maiden winner Artest, Yvete Sangalo and Mabroor, who won on debut in England on 7 May.
Hard Spun stands at Northwood Park in Victoria at a fee of $16,500 (inc. GST).
