After recording a recent juvenile double, Exceed And Excel, Darley’s extraordinary son of Danehill, recorded three new two-year-old winners on June 22 taking his tally of juveniles for the season to 19 in Australia. Equalling the mark he set with his second crop of runners, the dual G1 winner appears well on schedule to better his own previous best in the coming weeks.
The day began with the Trevor Bailey trained Excapishe scoring by four-and-a-half lengths on debut at Doomben.
Bred by Dr Paul Craddock, the gelding is out of a full-sister to the multiple G1-winning sprinter Primacy. A three-quarter brother to Stakes winner Coincidental, Excapishe displayed plenty of talent of debut, suggesting that Stakes class is well within his grasp.
The very next race on the Doomben card was taken out by Exceed And Excel filly C’Est Lorraine. Having her fourth career start, the Lindsay Gough-trained filly was bred by Milburn Creek Thoroughbred Stud and is out of the Stakes performed Canny Lad mare Canny Princess. From the family of this season’s G1 Metropolitan Handicap winner Herculian Prince, this filly also counts Champion Three-year-old Racing To Win as a close relative.
Sydney’s Warwick Farm was the venue of the third leg of Exceed And Excel’s trio when the Peter Snowden-trained Pillory recorded a very impressive victory over 1200m. Racing in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, the bay filly jumped from one of the outside gates, sat wide throughout and still had the audacity to sprint away from the field to record a one-and-a-half length win from stable mate Lightens.
Out of the Machiavellian mare Fall From Grace, Pillory was bred by Darley and is from the famed Fall Aspen family which includes G1 winners Dubai Millennium, Timber Country, Fort Wood, Northern Aspen, Mehthaaf, Occupandiste and Medaaly.
Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel’s current book of yearlings and weanlings includes the progeny of G1-winning mares Allow, Carry On Cutie, Champagne, Ellicorsam, Grand Archway, Hasna, Hill Of Grace, Lashed, Lovelorn, Miss Andretti, Mnemosyne, One Under, Recurring, Rose Archway, Ruffles, Shame, Upsetthym, Virage de Fortune, Camarilla, Preserve, Rinky Dink and River Dove.
