With 21 two-year-old winners to his name for the current racing season, Exceed And Excel can well and truly be called the ‘King of the Kids’, having now achieved more juvenile winners in a single racing season than his legendary sire Danehill, a massive achievement for the young dual G1-winning Champion sprinter.
Making her third trip to the races, the Greg Howell-trained Seedacel resumed from a spell to score a resounding one-and-a-half length victory over the 1000m at Grafton. Ridden by Ben Looker, the filly always had the race well within her grasp, racing away to record an impressive first up performance.
Bred by Premier Bloodstock, Seedacel is out of the Thunder Gulch mare Rosa Nilda, a half-sister to G3 winners Rosa’s Image and Rosa’s Joy, the dam of G3 winner Rosa’s Spur.
Led by the dual G1-winning chestnut colt Helmet, no other sire has recorded more two-year-old Stakes wins this season than Exceed And Excel. In fact, since January 2008, no stallion globally has achieved more juvenile Stakes winners, juvenile Stakes horses or juvenile winners, than Exceed And Excel. With 167 two-year-old winners over that period, it is a remarkable to note that his nearest rival is Invincible Spirit, some 41 winners astern.
Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $66,000 (inc GST), Exceed And Excel’s current book of yearlings and weanlings are out of some of the best mares he has covered, including G1-winning mares Allow, Carry On Cutie, Champagne, Ellicorsam, GrandArchway, Hasna, Hill Of Grace, Lashed, Lovelorn, MissAndretti, Mnemosyne, OneUnder, Recurring, RoseArchway, Ruffles, Shame, Upsetthym, Virage de Fortune, Camarilla, Preserve, RinkyDink and River Dove.
