After a last start second behind the highly promising Commands gelding Rain Affair, the Peter Snowden-trained Lonhro gelding Skytrain franked that form on August 20, winning the Listed Show County Quality by a long head.
Settling slightly wide in the run, jockey Kerrin McEoy always had the six-year-old in touch with the front-runner Winter King. Heading the leader in the last 50m, the consistent Skytrain went on to record his first Stakes win.
Bred by Woodlands Stud Skytrain is out of the Luskin Star mare Que Sera Sera. A half-brother to the G2 Reisling Slipper Trial Stakes winner Manana and the Listed winners Omens and Accepts, Skytrain comes from the family of G1-winning Commands gelding Erewhon.
Crowned the Australian Champion sire for the 2010/2011 racing season with earnings in excess of $8.7 million, Lonhro has now sired 28 individual Stakes winners headed by G1 winners Denman, Beaded and Benfica. Standing the forthcoming season at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $77,000 (inc GST), Lonhro will is sure to once again cover a quality book of mares.
