Lonhro mare Raspberries continued her rapid development by earning her first Group win in the G3 Cameron Handicap over 1500m at Newcastle on September 14.
Stakes-placed as a three-year-old in the G3 Adrian Knox Stakes in the autumn, Raspberries began her four-year-old season with two promising performances in restricted grade in Sydney prior to her first Stakes win.
Trained by Peter Snowden and racing in the colours of Sheikh Mohammed, mare finished strongly to defeat Light Brigade by a head, providing Lonhro with his third Australian Stakes winner of the season. Skytrain and Pinwheel have provided Lonhro with his other two Stakes wins to date this season.
Bred by Woodlands Stud, Raspberries is out of the Grand Lodge mare La Melba, herself a half-sister to the G1-winning sprinter Flavour. La Melba currently has a two-year-old filly by the G1 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense, as well as a yearling filly by Champion sprinter Strategic.
Earlier in the day, last start Stakes-winning Commands three-year-old Ambidexter finished strongly after an impeded run to take third in the G3 Newcastle Spring Stakes.
Both Lonhro and Commands currently stand at Darley Kelvinside at a fee of $77,000 (inc GST) and $66,000 (inc GST) respectively.
