Pounding could be aimed at far richer races during the autumn in Melbourne after the son of Exceed And Excel scored a stylish victory on Saturday, 11 February in the G3 Carlyon Cup over 1,600m at Sandown.
The four-year-old, out of English mare Silent Entrance, rushed down the outside to easily beat So Si Bon and Sunrise Rising with premier jockey Jamie Kah in the saddle.
It was the gelding’s first Stakes-race victory and took his record to seven wins and seven placings from 23 starts for trainer Peter Moody.
Exceed And Excel, whose juvenile son Barber won the Blue Diamond Prelude for colts and geldings earlier in the day, has now sired 208 Stakes winners worldwide and the winners of more than $251 million in prize money.
