Golden Sixty won his second successive Champion’s Mile and surpassed Beauty Generation’s all-time Hong Kong prize money record with a blistering final sprint in the G1 feature at Sha Tin on Sunday, 24 April.
The son of US stallion Medaglia d’Oro and Gaudeamus raced in fourth spot before jockey Vincent Ho angled the six-year-old off the fence at the top of the home straight.
Golden Sixty surged to the lead at the 200m pole before sprinting away from California Spangle and the fast-finishing Excellent Proposal (Exceed And Excel) to record his 21st win from 24 starts, lifting his prize money to a staggering HK$113.4 million for lucky owner Stanley Chan Ka-leung and trainer Frances Lui.
It was Golden Sixty’s fifth G1 victory and his 10th win over the 1,600m course. He stopped the clock on a sizzling 1min 32.81 seconds, just 0.57 seconds outside Preciousship’s track record.
Golden Sixty was sold at the 2017 Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale by Element Hill Stud, Innisplain to Riversley Park/Enigma Farm for A$120,000.
His sire Medaglia d’Oro, who won eight races - including three at G1 level and was placed seven times during his short 17-start career, had two lots sell for an average price of $275,000 at the 2022 Australian Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney this month.
The stallion has sired 26 individual G1 winners worldwide and stands at Darley’s Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for a service fee of $100,000.
