A star at three notching two G1 races in seven days, the G1 Darley Flight Stakes into the G1 Spring Champion Stakes, Kermadec's daughter Montefilia franked that form at four years old to add a third G1 to her resume, the G1 Metropolitan over 2,400m at Royal Randwick.
The four-year-old mare was partnered by Champion jockey Hugh Bowman where the pair jumped from barrier 13 in the 17-horse field. Sitting three-wide with cover midfield over the 2,400m journey, the pair had an economic run bidding their time where at the 300m mark Hugh Bowman asked the mare for effort and she responded as she always does.
Bred by Mr G Russell, Monteifilia sold for $130,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast Yearling Sale to trainer David Payne.
Today the duo defeated the G1 VRC Derby winner Warning as well as G1 Australian Derby winners Angel Of Truth and Quick Thinker.
Interestingly, at the same point in his southern hemisphere career Teofilo had sired 24 winners, Kermadec has 36; Teofilo sired his first G1 winner as a late winter three-year-old in June, Kermadec sired his first as an early spring three-year-old; Teofilo had 18 three-year-old winners, Kermadec has 29…
Teofilo sired the winners of sought-after races as the G1 Doncaster Handicap, Epsom Handicap, Canterbury Stakes, Australian Cup, Memsie Stakes, Makybe Diva Stakes and many more.
Kermadec stands the 2021 season at Northwood Park in Victoria at a must-have fee of $11,000 including GST.
