Top Executive continued his dominance at Emerald Downs with a determined head victory over Coastal Kid in the mile-and-one-sixteenth Muckleshoot Derby August 29.
It was the third straight Stakes win at Emerald Downs for the three-year-old Street Boss gelding, who captured both the Irish Day and Auburn Stakes earlier in the meet.
Top Executive broke sharply under regular partner Kevin Orozco and took up a stalking position in second, about a length behind pacesetter Coastal Kid. Top Executive began to mount his challenge nearing the three-sixteenth pole, quickly drawing alongside Coastal Kid to duel for the lead. The pair battled the entire length of the stretch, with Top Executive finally prevailing by a head at the wire.
Top Executive was bred in Kentucky by Frankfort Park Farm and Dr. R. Mason. He is out of Severn Shore, a Stakes-placed daughter of Pure Prize, and hails from the family of Stakes winners Sea Rescue, Waves and Tides, Dahlgren Hall and Navy Ribbon.
