Anamoe conclusively confirmed his status as the top two-year-old seen in Australia this season and established himself as potentially the best ever in this country by his sire Street Boss with a stunning victory in Saturday’s Group One Sires’ Produce Stakes at Randwick.
Anamoe’s win came after he was placed in the first two G1s of the Australian season and ranks as the most dominant performance by a juvenile this year.
The colt was taken out of the early battle by jockey James McDonald and cruised comfortably off the pace until entering the straight with 400m to run where he moved to the outside and unleashed a withering finish.
Anamoe claimed the lead at the 200m and moved into overdrive over the final stages, stretching his advantage to a dominant 2-3/4 lengths over Hilal with Captivant in third place.
The most experienced 2YO in the field, Anamoe stretched his record to three wins and three placings from his s even starts, with another G1 possibility ahead in the Champagne Stakes, the third leg of the Australian juvenile triple crown, in two weeks.
“We’ll monitor the situation and give consideration to a race which he should find as suitable as this one,” said trainer James Cummings.
“He’s been placed in the Blue Diamond Stakes and the Golden Slipper, the first two G1 races of the season and now he’s won the third.
“That’s the performance of a special colt.”
In his previous G1s, Anamoe had been plagued by wide gates, but a good draw and the step up to 1,400m gave him an opportunity that he seized in style.
Whether he runs in the Champagne Stakes or goes straight to the paddock, Anamoe is now the leading contender for top juvenile honours with no serious challenger in sight.
Anamoe becomes Street Boss’s eight individual G1 winner and his third in Australia following The Quarterback and Elite Street.
Street Boss is due to return to Darley’s Northwood Park stud in Victoria this year for another southern hemisphere season.
