The stud career of Darley stallion Astern has received glowing endorsement with the dominant success of filly Seradess who became his first Stakes winner when winning the Listed Cinderella Stakes at Morphettville on Monday, 8 March.
With all the precocious brilliance of her sire, Seradess unleashed a withering finish that carried her to a five-length victory over Roxy Blue.
A Magic Millions purchase by her trainer Mark Kavanagh from the Mill Park Stud draft last March, Seradess is from the winning, Hidden Dragon mare Obsidian Dragon.
Astern, one of the best two and three-year-olds of his era, retired to stud in 2017 as the highest-rated son of Medaglia d’Oro to enter Darley’s stallion ranks, an assessment backed by the demand for his yearlings which have sold to $725,000 in Australia.
Astern stands at Kelvinside in New South Wales and shuttled to Jonabell Farm in Kentucky for the northern hemisphere breeding season.
