Talented sprinter Mascarpone went a long way toward living up to the promise he’d shown as he became a fourth Stakes winner for his sire Shooting To Win at Te Rapa on Saturday, 7 November.
Mascarpone’s win in the Listed Legacy Lodge Sprint was his sixth and his first at Stakes level and left co-trainer Graeme Rogerson convinced he’s worth a trip to Australia.
“I think you’ll see him in Melbourne in the new year for a couple of sprints over there and then back in Australia again next spring,” Rogerson said.
Mascarpone settled well back in the field off a strong pace set by Endless Drama and came wide from the 400m with an overpowering run to beat Coventina Bay and Short Fuse.
Bred and co-owned by Gerry Harvey, Mascarpone was a NZ$160,00 yearling purchase at Karaka’s Book One sale in 2018 and is related to the Australian Stakes winners Bel Danero and Bislotto.
Shooting To Win stood the most recent southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a service fee of $16,500, including GST.
