September Run confirmed her place among Exceed And Excel’s cavalcade of Stakes winners by making it three Black Type wins in her past four starts in Saturday’s Listed Poseidon Stakes at Flemington.
And the style of the win suggested more important successes are in store.
Jockey Craig Williams dropped September Run to the rear from the jump, calling on her at the 300m from which point she powered home, striking the front at the 150m and cruising to a 1-1/2 length victory over Maha.
Another daughter of Exceed And Excel, Minhaaj, took third place.
September Run, a $380,000 yearling purchase, was bred by Alpara Lodge and is the first foal of the Stakes-winning Street Cry mare Pittsburgh Flyer, herself a daughter of the South African G2 winner Warning Zone.
She is one of 177 Stakes winners sired by Exceed And Excel who is standing the current southern hemisphere season at Kelvinside, NSW, at a fee of $132,000 including GST.
