Another Darley-sired youngster raced his way into G1 Golden Slipper calculations as Microphone scored one of the more impressive juvenile wins of the season in Saturday’s G2 Skyline Stakes at Randwick.
Microphone’s consummate victory also gave his sire Exceed And Excel the chance of another two-year-old feature win and provided Godolphin with a strong hand in a race Sheikh Mohammed last won with Sepoy in 2011.
The colt was already one of Exceed And Excel’s 156 Stakes winners and his latest win gave Godolphin it’s 15th juvenile success of the current Australian season.
The win was Microphone’s third and came after a campaign in Melbourne in which he established himself as one of the best two-year-olds in training.
Microphone also made the step up to the 1,200m of the Golden Slipper in style, settling perfectly just off the pace and powering to the front at the 200m before clearing out to a 1-1/2 length win.
Renowned as one of the world’s foremost producers of juvenile Stakes winner, Exceed And Excel has produced such outstanding Australian two-year-olds as Guelph, Helmet and Earthquake and also sired the 2013 Golden Slipper winner Overreach.
Microphone was Exceed And Excel's 37th two-year-old Group winner.
Exceed And Excel stands at Kildangan Stud at a fee of €50,000, Oct 1, SLF.
