Street Boss is a stallion who has had to do it the hard way.
Reverse shuttling between Jonabell Farm in America and Northwood Park in Victoria, Street Boss entered the Australian stallion ranks in 2009, merely two years following the outbreak of equine influenza and in a year where all vendors experienced a significant decline in the yearling market.
In March, five months prior to the start of the breeding season, the Victorian-based auction house Inglis reported a $15 million loss which saw the average price plummet $28,000 at its Premier Yearling Sale (2008: $83,541 and 2009: $55,370).
With many challenges to contend with, the speed specialist still covered a book of 72 mares in his first season, his smallest book to date.
Street Boss is no stranger to G1 glory siring the likes of G1 Kentucky Oaks winner Cathryn Sophia, five-time Stakes winner in Hong Kong, Rapper Dragon and G1 Newmarket Handicap hero, The Quarterback.
The Quarterback's dam, Soorena (Encosta de Lago), was covered by Street Boss in his first season and the resultant foal would be her fourth, a cross that has produced 25% Stakes winners to runners.
Bred by Rick Jamieson, the breeder of many other G1-stars including Black Caviar, Jameka, All Too Hard and Hong Kong-elite Lucky Bubbles, The Quarterback was offered at the 2012 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale as Lot 242.
Knocked down for $120,000, the then yearling returned seven times its service fee at a price almost twice the sale average.

An exciting filly as Lot 174 offered by Blue Gum Farm. Out of the Stakes winning mare, Exceedingly French (Exceed And Excel), this filly is bred on the same cross that has produced 66% Stakes runners to winners including G3 winner, Petits Filous.
Hunter Valley-based consignors, Vinery Stud, are presenting a colt out of the Stakes-winning and Stakes-producing blue hen mare, Grace And Power making him a half-brother to G1 VRC Sprint Classic winner, Delectation (Shamardal) as Lot 204.
