Hence swept past his rivals on the far turn and pulled away in the stretch to win the $175,000 Governor’s Cup Stakes by four lengths at Remington Park Sept. 30.
It was the second Stakes victory this year for the four-year-old son of Street Boss, who improved his record to five wins (four Stakes victories) in 17 career starts.
Breaking a bit slowly from the gate, Hence trailed his four rivals by 12 lengths through the first three-quarters of a mile. As the field entered the far turn, Hence shifted gears, sweeping past his rivals while racing wide. Hence had taken the lead at the top of the stretch, and then continued to draw off to win handily.
Racing as a homebred for Calumet Farm, Hence is out of Floating Island, by A.P. Indy. Floating Island is a half-sister to multiple Graded Stakes winner Pico Teneriffe (by Red Ransom), the dam of two-time Canadian Champion Older Horse, Marchfield.
In addition to Hence, Street Boss is the sire of such standouts as Rapper Dragon, Horse of the Year in Hong Kong and winner of the Hong Kong Derby (a local G1) and the G2 Chairman’s Trophy; Cathryn Sophia, winner of the 2016 G1 Kentucky Oaks, and Decked Out, winner of the G1 American Oaks.
