Enticed showed his appreciation for the return to the cooler temperatures of New York when he rolled to a two-and-three-quarter length victory in the G3 Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct.
It was the second Graded Stakes win for the three-year-old son of Medaglia d’Oro, who bounced back to form after a fourth-place finish in the G2 Holy Bull Stakes at Gulfstream Park in February.
Breaking alertly under jockey Junior Alvarado, Enticed raced off the pace in fifth as outsider Old Time Revival led the field through the first half-mile. Entering the far turn, Alvarado asked his mount for more and the son of Medaglia d’Oro responded, closing strongly on the leader while being caught five-wide.
Enticed reeled in longtime leader Old Time Revival at the sixteenth pole and took the lead, eventually pulling away to win while being geared down by his jockey. It was the second Graded Stakes win for Enticed, who captured the G2 Kentucky Jockey Club as a two-year-old.
Racing as a homebred for Godolphin, Enticed is out of It’s Tricky, winner of the G1 Acorn, G1 Coaching Club American Oaks, and G1 Ogden Phipps. It’s Tricky, a daughter of Mineshaft, is out of Catboat, winner of the G3 Arlington Breeders’ Cup Oaks.
Medaglia d’Oro was the sire of seven G1 winners in 2017, more than any other stallion in North America. His G1 winners included two Breeders’ Cup winners – Talismanic (Turf) and Bar Of Gold (Filly & Mare Sprint). Medaglia d’Oro was also the sire of the G1-winning three-year-old fillies New Money Honey and Elate; turf mare Dickinson; two-time G1 winning juvenile Bolt d’Oro; and two-time Eclipse Champion Songbird.
Thus far in 2018, Medaglia d’Oro is represented not only by Enticed, but also by Bolt d’Oro, winner of the G2 San Felipe Stakes and Wonder Gadot, third in the G2 Rachel Alexandra Stakes.
