A few new lines were added to the ever-expanding Exceed And Excel story when Folkswood raced up to his good overseas form to win the Listed Cranbourne Cup on 15 October.
Known largely as a sire of precocious youngsters, Exceed And Excel again showed his all-round capability through Folkswood, whose latest win came at 2025m.
Folkswood, who became his sire’s 140th Stakes winner, is from the Galileo mare Magic Nymph, a daughter of the G1 Coronation Stakes winner Balisado. He is her seventh winner.
Folkswood had to overcome a wide gate in Sunday’s race, but jockey Kerrin McEvoy had him in fourth place, travelling smoothly, one off the fence after 200m, producing him at the 600m to round up the leaders and race clear for a comfortable victory.
A winner of two races in England and another in Dubai, Folkswood was bred by Hanscombe and Valiant Studs and was purchased by Godolphin as a yearling in 2014.
Exceed And Excel stands at Kelvinside, NSW, at a fee of A$110,000, including GST.
