Exceed And Excel added another Stakes-winning two-year-old to his record on Saturday, 7 October when his progressive son Beau Ideal sprinted to victory in the Listed Criterium de Vitesse, run over five furlongs at Chantilly.
The Andre Fabre-trained colt, who runs in the Godolphin blue, was settled off the pace early on but came with a sweeping run down the centre of the track to get up on the line and win by a nose.
Beau Ideal won on his racecourse debut at Deauville in July, before finishing a close second in the Listed Prix Saraca at Maisons-Laffitte last month.
Beau Ideal was bred by W & R Barnett Ltd and is out of the Group-winning mare Lay Time, herself a half-sister to G2 winner Plea Bargain (Machiavellian). They are from the family of four-time G1 winner Time Charter.
Exceed And Excel has now sired no fewer than five Black Type-winning juveniles, headed by record-breaking G2 Mill Reef hero James Garfield, who now heads to the Breeders Cup and Sound And Silence, who won the Windsor Castle Stakes at Royal Ascot before landing the G3 Prix Eclipse last month. His top two-year-old filly is G2 Lowther Stakes winner Threading.
