As the attention on Godolphin’s outstanding Australian filly Alizee grows ahead of her bid for a second G1 success in next week’s Thousand Guineas, her sire Sepoy continues on a winning spree.
Alizee's G1 Flight Stakes victory on Saturday, 30 September followed a strong run of winners for her sire that continued with four more – half the card – at Gosford, NSW, on Thursday, 5 October.
Three-year-olds Tiny Taj and Lightz, and four-year-olds Sikhing Glory and Raise An Army all won their respective races, taking Sepoy’s tally of individual worldwide winners beyond 100, with almost half of them having arrived since 1 June of this year.
While Alizee’s next G1 attempt is a week away, Sepoy’s daughter Watchmespin contests the G2 Manifold Stakes over a mile at Flemington on Saturday, 7 October in the bid to become another Stakes winner for her sire.
Another Darley stallion who is enjoying extraordinary success is Iffraaj, who has strong prospects of adding another important win to his record this weekend.
Over the past month, his progeny have won no fewer than 37 races. His best southern hemisphere son, Gingernuts, will attempt to add to that figure in the G1 Livamol Classic at Hastings, NZ.
In other Australia and New Zealand G1s this weekend, the Darley stallions will be represented by Astoria (Medaglia d’Oro) and Sanctioned (Teofilo) in the Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick while Humidor (Teofilo) is the main challenger to champion mare Winx (Street Cry) in the Underwood Stakes at Flemington.
Sepoy is standing at Kelvinside, NSW, at a service fee of A$16,500 including GST.
