Zennor made his Stakes debut a winning one when he charged from just off the pace to win the Listed Fasig-Tipton Lure Stakes by one length at Saratoga August 5.
Stalking the leader from second throughout the early stages of the race, the grey son of Medaglia d’Oro took command at the top of the stretch and easily held off the challenge of favored Projected to win by a length. It was the first Stakes win for Zennor, who has now won three races in a row. The Kiaran McLaughlin trainee improved his record to 5-2-1 in 13 starts.
Bred in Kentucky by Darley, Zennor races as a homebred for Godolphin Racing. Zennor is out of Zelanda, winner of the Listed Flying Fillies Stakes. In addition to Zennor, Zelanda has also produced Time Prisoner (by Elusive Quality), winner of the G3 Prix de Ris-Orangis, and Pearl Grey (Gone West), winner of the Listed Empress Stakes.
Medaglia d’Oro is the sire of 10 stakes winners in 2017, including G1 winners Songbird, New Money Honey and Dickinson. No other stallion in North American has as many G1 winners this year. In the sales ring, he was represented by the $1 million sale-topping filly at the recent Fasig-Tipton July Sale. That matched the highest price for a filly ever sold at that venue and brings to six the total number of sale-topping yearlings he’s sired in the past 10 years. Again, no other sire can match that feat.
Medaglia d’Oro will stand the 2017 breeding season at Kelvinside for a fee of $110,000 inc GST.
