Medaglia d’Oro’s son Spectroscope has staked his claim for the G1 Doncaster Mile after charging home to land the G3 Doncaster Prelude over 1500m at Rosehill Gardens on 25 March, claiming his first Stakes victory and second consecutive win.
Racing in the Godolphin blue, Spectroscope settled at the tail-end of the field in the initial stages of the race before bursting through a gap on the inside and powering home to secure a dominant length-and-a-quarter victory.
Bred by SF Bloodstock LLC, Spectroscope is out of two-time G1-winning Rock Of Gibraltar mare Diamondrella, herself a daughter of Stakes-winning mare Tap Your Feet and half-sister to Stakes winner Bonnie Blue Flag.
Spectroscope becomes the 99th Stakes winner and 49th Group winner for his sire Medaglia d’Oro, who has also sired Champion and multiple G1 winner Songbird, Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner New Money Honey, Golden Slipper winner Vancouver and last year's G1 Golden Rose hero Astern.
