The Darley sires have dominated this afternoon’s action at Chantilly and the feature race of the day, the Prix du Cadran, saw Teofilo record a new G1 winner as his son Quest For More led home a trifecta for our stallions with Manduro’s Vazirabad taking second from Nearly Caught (New Approach).
Quest For More was settled at the rear of the field under George Baker, while last year’s winner Mille et Mille set the early pace. Roger Charlton’s charge was asked to quicken once approaching the final two furlongs and responded brilliantly, sweeping past his rivals to win by a head. Previous G1 winner Vazirabad put up another fine performance, also finishing fast to take second while Nearly Caught (already a G2 winner) made a fantastic G1 debut to finish third.
Quest For More won the G2 Lonsdale Cup at York this August, before being denied by the narrowest of margins by Dubawi’s Sheikhzayedroad in the G2 Doncaster Cup last month.
Bred by Epona Bloodstock Limited, Quest For More is out of the Rainbow Quest mare No Quest, also dam of Group winner and G1-placed runner Macaw. The mare is herself a half-sister to G1 French 2,000 Guineas winner No Pass No Sale.
Teofilo has sired 27 horses who have won or placed at Black type level this year, including fellow G1s winner Special Fighter and Palentino. He stands at Kelvinside at a fee of $44,000 including GST, alongside his G1-winning son Kermadec ($22,000 including GST).
