Promising two-year-old My Country became the first Australian-bred Stakes winner for exciting young stallion Poet’s Voice with a strong win in the Listed Lancaster Stakes (1200m) at Eagle Farm on June 11.
My Country was given the run of the race by Blake Shinn, who was able to find the fence trailing the leaders before easing three wide in the straight and showing a good turn of foot to win by a narrow but decisive margin over 1200m.
Bred by AB Thomas, My Country took her record to three wins from four starts, with trainers Peter and Paul Snowden now considering spelling the filly with Stakes races in the spring as potential targets.
Out of unplaced Danehill mare Bells Will Ring, who has produced four foals to race for three winners, she has a yearling and weanling fillies by Poet’s Voice and is due to foal to Dawn Approach this year.
Overall, Poet’s Voice is the sire of five Stakes performers including the Ripon Champion Two-Year-Old Trophy winner Whitman and Ode To Evening, who was narrowly beaten in the Listed International Trial Stakes at Lingfield.
Poet’s Voice will stand at Kelvinside, NSW, this season for a fee of $11,000 inc GST.
