Pedigree notes

Kermadec offers the opportunity to breed a Guineas or Classic winner using a stallion with an industry-leading stat of 3% G1 winners to runners. Many decent sires barely reach or exceed that figure for Stakes winners, let alone G1 winners.
Kermadec’s ratio of 57% G1 winners to Stakes winners is exceptional for a stallion with over 100 runners. He is from the proven Classic Galileo sire line and his four individual G1 winners have won the VRC Oaks, BRC Queensland Oaks, the ATC Spring Champion Stakes, ATC Flight Stakes and the MRC Toorak Handicap among their victories. Those are all elite G1 races every serious breeder wants to win. Kermadec can sire both top-class colts and fillies, three of his seven Stakes winners are colts, four are fillies.

G1 Statistics
Kermadec’s affinity for the Blushing Groom line is evident in his G1 stats as half his G1 winners are out of mares by Quest For Fame, a grandson of Blushing Groom. The Bendigo Guineas winner Gundec is out of a mare by Fantastic Light, another grandson of Blushing Groom. Kermadec’s sire Teofilo also has a strong affinity for a return of Blushing Groom in the mare. The various Teofilo/Blushing Groom crosses and their reverses have produced 41 Stakes winners and 10 G1 winners at a rate of 24.3% G1 winners to Stakes winners, an exceptionally high strike rate of elite performers.
Special mention
Both Quest For Fame and Fantastic Light are bred on a Blushing Groom/Nijinsky cross. Those two stallions are bred on a Nearco/Menow/Bull Dog mix which has been a very effective broad nick in contemporary pedigrees. The leading Australian sire Snippets also carries that trio of sires in his makeup and has crossed well with Blushing Groom and Nijinsky, so mares carrying Blushing Groom, Nijinsky or Snippets are likely to provide further good results when mated with Kermadec.
Multiple Stakes winner Lim’s Kosciuszko is already the result of this cross being the only runner with a second dam by Snippets’s son Pins.

Best Nicks
Kermadec has two G1 winners out of three runners from Quest For Fame mares and one Stakes winner out of a mare by another Blushing Groom-line sire, Fantastic Light from just one runner. It’s hard to find a stronger nick than that. His sire Teofilo has positive nicking stats with the same sire line.

Kermadec’s sire Teofilo has his best results with Dubawi mares which he covered in large numbers giving us a reliable data set. From 30 runners there are seven Stakes winners, 23.3% Stakes winners to runners including current Australian star Without A Fight.
Kermadec has just one runner out of a Dubawi mare, the G3-placed seven-race winner Running Glory, while his only other runner with a return of Dubawi is a multiple winner.
Kermadec’s grandsire Galileo and Dubawi’s sire Dubai Millennium are bred on very similar lines and are responsible for one of the strongest nicks in international pedigrees. It works for their sons Frankel, Teofilo and Dubawi in all combinations and is already showing promise for the Kermadec/Dubawi version.

Inbreeding / Linebreeding options
Kermadec is out of a Fuji Kiseki mare and that stallion’s third dam is a half-sister to Mill Reef. Returning mares carrying a strain of Mill Reef to Kermadec has had outstanding results, resulting in 17 runners, eight winners, two Stakes winners - both G1 winners, a G3 placegetter and two multiple winners which are both $200,000-plus earners.
This cross has 11.7% Stakes winners to runners and even more impressively 100% G1 winners to Stakes winners.
It is a notable achievement for any stallion to sire a G1 winner early in his career, to sire two out of mares by the same broodmare sire as Kermadec has done with Quest For Fame mares, or two with returns of a quality ancestor, as Kermadec has done with Mill Reef is a clear pointer to the types of mares likely to produce future winners.

Strategy One
Kermadec has his best early results with Quest For Fame and Fantastic Light from the Blushing Groom line. This bloodline can be found in descendants of sires such as Rahy, Viscount, Spectrum, Le Havre, Orientate, Housebuster and Animal Kingdom just to name a few.

Strategy Two
Replicate the hottest cross of the new millennium involving Galileo and Dubai Millennium. Galileo’s son Frankel and Dubai Millennium’s son Dubawi are responsible for eight Stakes winners from 32 runners (25% Stakes winners to runners) of which three are G1 winners, (9.3% G1 winners to runners and 37.5% G1 winners to Stakes winners). Those are industry-leading stats.
Kermadec has great early results with a return of Dubawi, so mares by Poet’s Voice, Makfi, Night Of Thunder and other sons of Dubawi look ideal choices for him.

Strategy Three
Kermadec is suited by mares carrying Mill Reef who can be accessed through mares by Redoute’s Choice, Written Tycoon, Pierro, So You Think or Xtravagant just to name the most obvious sources.
