During an incredibly strong opening day’s trading at the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in Sydney, a daughter of Exceed And Excel ensured her sire’s name featured in the leading lists as she sold for $750,000 to become the highest-priced filly of the day.
Offered for sale by Segenhoe Stud, she is out of G1 AJC Flight Stakes winner Unearthly (Zabeel), making her a half-sister to G1 SAJC Oaks winner Invest, plus a further two winners. She was bought by Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa al Maktoum.
Earlier in the session, Exceed And Excel’s half-brother to multiple G1 winner Happy Archer (Dubawi) and Group-placed Stakes winner Femina Fashion (Shamardal), went to China Horse Club for $400,000. Out of So Tempted, he was offered by Newgate Farm.
Lonhro's three lots to go through the ring on day one averaged $417,000 with his highest-priced lot being Mill Park Stud's colt out of Stakes-winning Exceed And Excel mare Very Discreet, knocked down to Shadwell Australasia for $560,000.
Sepoy, whose first European runners are now due to hit the track, continued to prove a popular choice among buyers, averaging over $200,000. His highest price of the day was A$370,000, given by Laurel Oak Bloodstock for his filly out of Black type winner Baby Corn (Exceed And Excel). Baby Corn’s first foal to race, Cornrow, finished third in last season’s G1 Sires’ Produce Stakes and G1 Blue Diamond Stakes.
Another Sepoy yearling to make in excess of $300,000 was his daughter out of G2 performer Acquired, who was bought by G Ryan/ Jadeskye for A$350,000.
