Bernardini’s G1-performed daughter Zanbagh led home a Darley-sired 1-2 finish in the G2 Emancipation Stakes at Rosehill 26 March, flashing home to grab Supara (Domesday) in the final few strides.
A runner-up in both the Australian Oaks and VRC Oaks as a three-year-old two seasons ago, Zanbagh has returned to her best this preparation. Jockey Blake Shinn timed his run perfectly, pulling Zanbagh to the centre of the track after straightening and she finished too powerfully.
A homebred for Sandy Tait, Zanbagh is out of G1 Australian Oaks winner Wild Iris, a daughter of Spectrum.
Bernardini is the sire of 45 Stakes winners, among them 13 G1 winners including Boban, a five-time winner at the elite level, as well as Alpha, To Honor And Serve, Stay Thirsty and Rachel’s Valentina.
Bernardini has two yearlings entered for next month’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. Lot 468 is a colt out of a half-sister to G1 winner Complacent (Authorized) and lot 579 is a half-sister to G1 Australian Oaks winner Once Were Wild.
