Exceed And Excel’s star sprinter Flamberge claimed his third G1 victory, leading home a Darley-sired 1-2 finish in the G1 William Reid Stakes at Moonee Valley, 24 March.
Coming off a last-start victory in the G1 Oakleigh Plate, Flamberge settled in behind the speed in the early stages. Turning for home a rails run opened up and jockey Brad Rawiller drove Flamberge through and in a thrilling finish he snatched victory from Commands colt Holler in the final stride.
A homebred for David and Jenny Moodie’s Contract Racing, Flamberge is out of G3 winner Razor Blade and is a full-brother to G1 performer Curtana and half-brother to G3 winner Durendal (Medaglia d'Oro) as well as Sunburnt Land who was a Stakes winner and G1 placegetter.
Flamberge is one of 10 G1 winners for Exceed And Excel and joins his paternal half-brothers Helmet and Excelebration as a three-time G1 winner.
Exceed And Excel has 17 yearlings catalogued for next month’s Inglis Easter Yearling Sale and they can be viewed by clicking here.
