G2-winning Exceed And Excel colt Headwater recorded a determined victory over the older horses in the Listed Kensington Stakes over 1000m at Flemington, January 30.
A dominant winner of the G2 Silver Slipper as a juvenile at just his second career start, Headwater failed to recapture his best form as a Spring three-year-old last year. However, his first-up Kensington Stakes win over seasoned performers Bullpit and The Quarterback (Street Boss) suggests he will be a leading contender in the major autumn carnival sprints over the next two months.
Bred by Cressfield, Headwater is out of G1 Oakleigh Plate winner River Dove and is a full brother to Stakes-performed filly Fare Well.
The sire of 10 G1 winners, Exceed And Excel has two yearlings catalogued for next month’s Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale and 17 entries for the Inglis Easter Yearling Sale in April.
