Exceed And Excel leads the way at the Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast
Champion stallion Exceed And Excel finished the four-day Magic Millions Yearling Sale on the Gold Coast which concluded on Saturday as the leading stallion by average.
Highlighted by an $800,000 colt and a $775,000 filly, Exceed And Excel, who sired last year’s Magic Millions Two-year-old Classic winner Le Chef, led the way with an average of $364,545 for his 11 lots sold.
On the opening day Ampulla Lodge’s lot 123, a colt out of Stakes performer Common Smytzer bred on the hugely successful Exceed And Excel/Snippets cross, sold to Hong Kong bloodstock agent George Moore for $800,000. Bred by Makybe, the colt was sold as a weanling for $300,000 at the Inglis Great Southern Sale in the middle of last year.
On day three Segenhoe Stud consigned lot 592, an Exceed And Excel filly out of Reset’s G2-winning/G1-placed daughter Set For Fame. Following a strong bidding duel with Set For Fame’s former trainer Peter Moody, Shadwell Australasia’s Angus Gold eventually secured the filly for $775,000.
Also on day three, a new record-price for a yearling by Poet’s Voice in Australia was achieved when his three-quarter brother to Catkins consigned by Amarina Farm as lot 570 sold to the Hong Kong Jockey Club for $280,000. Poet's Voice was also one of the standout stallions of Book 2 on Sunday, with his three lots selling at an average of $98,333, including a top price of $125,000 for Riversdale's lot 1010, a colt out of Iwannabelucky.
As always the progeny of Lonhro proved to be popular with lot 506, a colt out of Pilbara Sand consigned by Ampulla Lodge, selling for $340,000, while lot 3 gave Sepoy a strong start to the sale when she sold to Gerald Ryan for $280,000.
