Soul Driver takes the Oceanside
Three-year-old Street Boss colt Soul Driver captured his second Stakes win in a row on July 16th with an exciting come-from-behind victory in the Oceanside Stakes on opening day at Del Mar.
In the one-mile turf stakes, Soul Driver broke slowly and was at the back of the pack early before beginning to pass horses down the backstretch. He made an impressive three-wide move around the turn and was able to run down front-runner Forest Blue in the stretch to win by a nose under jockey Mike Smith.
Bred in Kentucky by John R. Penn, Soul Driver is out of a half-sister to G1 winner Victor’s Cry, a son of former Darley stallion Street Cry, the sire of Street Boss.
The sire of G1 winners Danza and Capo Bastone, Street Boss has five black-type winners in 2015, including G3 El Camino Real Derby winner Metaboss. He has more two-year-old winners this year than any other Kentucky stallion, and is currently third on the 2015 Juvenile sire list.
Street Boss will stand the upcoming southern hemisphere breeding season at Northwood Park at a fee of $11,000 (inc. GST).
