Coffee Clique roasts in G3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap
Medaglia d'Oro's Coffee Clique put on a show July 4, with an easy win in the G3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Handicap at Parx. It was the fourth Graded Stakes win for the five-year-old mare, whose other wins include the G1 Just A Game Stakes as a four-year-old.
In the one-and-one-sixteenth-mile race Coffee Clique patiently traveled in contention in third, just off the pace. Around the far turn she began to accelerate and contend for the lead, then kicked in down the stretch to come away with the clear win.
Bred by Mrs. Jerry Amerman, Coffee Clique is out of the Royal Academy mare Miss Chapin, a daughter of Stakes winner and Graded-placed runner Society Dream. Coffee Clique is a half-sister to Graded Stakes-placed Royal Fury and Stakes-placed Schoolofhardrocks.
Coffee Clique is the 11th Graded or Group winner in 2015 for Medaglia d'Oro, who continues to have a fantastic year. Top runners this year for the sire include G1 Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap winner Mshawish, G2 Azeri Stakes winner Gold Medal Dancer, and G1 Golden Slipper winner Vancouver. The sire is best known for his Horse Of The Year daughter Rachel Alexandra.
Medaglia d'Oro will stand the coming breeding season at Kelvinside at a fee of $110,000 inc. GST.
